Deconvolution of deterioration of anode-supported cells by chromium poisoning from alumina-forming austenitic stainless steels for balance of plant applications in solid oxide fuel cells

Al2O3-forming austenitic (AFA) stainless steels are potential replacements for the existing balance of plant (BoP) components in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). In this study, chromium (Cr) poisoning anode supported (ASCs) coupled with various alloys was analyzed by distribution relaxation times (DRT). The performance deterioration ASCs mainly attributed to increased polarization resistances chemisorption oxygen on cathode and diffusion reaction cathode. superior ASC AFA due formed continuous alumina layer which can vastly decrease evaporated gaseous Cr species, thus alleviating region.
